PARAÑAQUE City Mayor Florencio M.Bernabe Jr., together with television program Biyaheng Langit, TV station RPN 9 and Globe public service program Kababayan recently launched the "Regalo ni Mayor Jun Bernabe sa Pamilya ng mga OFWs" at the Assessor's lounge in Parañaque City Hall where families of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) got the chance to talk to their loved ones abroad for free.
"Providing our citizens with tis opportunity to talk to their relatives who are working abroad is one way of bringing them closer together and easingtheir relatives' loneliness as they face the challenges of working in a foreign country," Mayor Bernabe said.
Biyaheng Langit TV and radio talk show ost Rey Langit assured callers that they will be able to talk to their loved ones no matter where they are and that each of them will be given equal time to talk to their relatives once they have been reached.
During the program, Mr. Langit took time to interview Mayor Bernabe on the latest developments that are happening in Parañaque where Mayor Bernabe mentioned the various improvements that have been made such as the collection of garbage, the relocation of the "talipapa" or wet market, spplying motorcycles to the police force, lighting projects, the creation of the Tax Payer's lounge and the Tax Amnesty Program where the city offered a 100 percent conconation of interest, surcharges and penalties to delinquent tax payers.
Mayor Bernabe also mentioned that the city has one of the lowest crime rate and plans to address the issues of informal settlers living in depressed areas through relocation programs and purchasing of properties for them to settle in.
This is the first time that the city government conducted this kind of service where over 50 callers took part in the one day activity which started at 10 a.m. and ended at 7 p.m., and will later be aired on a delayed telecast of the Biyaheng Langit show at RPN 9 and radio station DWIZ.
