Baclaran bridge under repair

The Parañaque City government has announced the Baclaran Bridge along Airport Road is currently undergoing repair by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Police Traffic Management Group chief Col. Ariel Andrade said motorists going to and from Manila Domestic Road should refrain from using Airport Road and instead take Tramo or MIA Road.

Andrade said a portion of the bridge near Domestic Road on the side of Pasay City suffered cracks and is no longer safe for motorists.

The DPWH said the bridge had become weak after its concrete support was partially damaged during the heavy rains.

Trucks using the bridge caused a portion to give way last Tuesday.

Repair activities would conducted until Sunday.

Parañaque Mayor Florencio Bernabe advised motorists not to take Airport Road to avoid inconvenience.

He also alerted the city’s traffic enforcers to control traffic and guide motorists in the area. — Rhodina Villanueva (Philippine Star) 8/25/2006
