Paranaque city Mayor Florencio Bernabe Jr. recently ordered the Economic Enterprise Management Division to inspect thoroughly the weighing scales used in public and private markets in the city to ensure that the consumers’ rights are protected.
“In Paranaque city, we exercise our commerce fair and square. Every consumer must get the right value for his or her money”, he said.
The move is also in line with the Consumer Welfare and Protection Program of the city government.
The latest sortie was made on Sept. 4 at the “Bulungan” (Fisherman’s Wharf) in Coastal Road in Barnagay La Huerta.
The inspection was conducted by a composite team of market inspectors headed by Market Master Rolando Salazar and a force of barangay tanod led by La Huerta Barangay Captain Ernie Jose.
Confiscated in this market inspection were 24 scales that were found out to be either tampered with or unfit for use due to old age.
It might be recalled the Parañaque's advocacy for consumer welfare was initiated by the late Councilor Alberto Buenavista, as his relatives were elated to hear that the Bernabe administration is continuing his legacy.
